I offer a free no-obligation consultation of up to 30 minutes to discuss how I might be able to help with your family research or house history.

After the initial free consultation, I will provide you with an itemised quotation for services. This means that you can decide exactly what research you would like to commission and there are no hidden costs.

My hourly rate will be charged for any or all of the following: online research, onsite archival research, drawing up a family tree and writing a client report. Travelling time to archives in London is not charged for. Items such as certificates, wills, photography permits, photocopying and travel costs will be charged for in addition to the hourly rate. This will all be itemised in the initial quotations and on invoices.

Work will be carried out within the set budget and to the agreed deadline. All work is confidential and you can read my privacy statement here.

I provide an in-depth client report which details the research, sources, findings and possible ways to take the research further if relevant.

Payment is required in pounds sterling and can be paid by bank transfer or PayPal by arrangement. Commissions under £275 will require payment in advance. Commissions over £275 will require an initial deposit (usually 50%) to book in the research and full payment will be required before the report can be viewed.

Occasionally, details of ancestors will just not be there, as either they managed to avoid being recorded, they cannot be identified with certainty, or the records no longer exist. Charges are incurred for the research time taken to find, examine and interpret the sources nevertheless. In my client report, I give a full list of what resources have been checked, both those that were successful and unsuccessful.

Please contact me to discuss your research requirements.

“Thank you so much for your report and the images. I am overjoyed that you were able to find my ancestor’s death, which confirms what I thought regarding his son moving to Australia not long afterwards. I really appreciated you keeping me up to date as to when you were starting the research – it is reassuring to know time frames. Thank you.” J.D., Australia

“Rachel searched archives on my behalf when I needed advice on sources to consult and was unable to search on my own due to distance. She communicated her plan and her results promptly, clearly and helpfully. Rachel was knowledgeable and professional, and she answered my questions in a friendly and courteous manner. I would not hesitate to recommend her.” J.S., Australia.
